A letter from the author
Dear Survivor,
I’m Lucy, a fellow survivor of domestic abuse. I spent seven years writing my way through the experience of coercive control and the slow process of recovery. Those poems became Veins of Gold - a 52-page companion for women healing after abuse.
Through the kindness of a community Crowdfunder, I am now able to offer a limited number of these books to survivors for free.
About the book
I created this book for those walking a similar path to me. It is a collection of short, accessible poems designed to be an easy read. I know that when you are healing, long texts can feel overwhelming. These poems are brief and intentional, guiding you through my experience across seven chapters.
The journey starts with the 'love bombing' stage, giving space to the hope and romance of the early days - a vital part of the story that is so often overlooked. Although it touches on the darkness of abuse, it also focuses on the light at the end of the tunnel - moving from an anger to a profound 'rebirth', something I personally experienced as a reclamation of identity and return to inner peace.
I want to emphasise that this book reflects my personal experience through poetry; I recognise that my words may not resonate with everyone, and that is okay. Your feelings and your experiences are valid and belong entirely to you.
Not everyone is in a place where they feel ready to "fill the cracks with gold," and there is no pressure to do so. However, I deeply hope there is something within these pages that helps you see the strength and value of your own survival story.
If you feel these words could support you, I invite you to share your details in the form below.
You don’t need to explain your story or provide any "proof" - your request is enough.
With love and solidarity,
Lucy x
